8th Pay Commission: There was huge anticipation among lakhs of central government employees and pensioners for an announcement for the Eighth Pay Commission. The government has accepted the eight pay commission. It will revise the salaries of all the employees engaged with government works in upward directions. The working conditions for the present employees as well as conditions for the pensioners are expected to improve with the establishment of the Eighth Pay Commission. This article touches on every other important detail concerning the Eighth Pay Commission.
Big Eighth Pay Commission Approved By The Government
Central government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has engaged in the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has in January confirmed the government has approved the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission. This important decision was taken much earlier before the Union Budget of 2025-26. However, there are no formal announcements to shed light on the formation of the commission and the manner in which the commission is going to formulate its proceedings.
Expected Date Of Implementation
Employee association organizations that keep track of proceedings of the commission believe that the probable date for the introduction of the eighth pay commission would be January 2026, as this is the terminal date for seventh pay commission, and by then the government must have enough time to review the existing salary structure and come up with new recommendations to facilitate the proper flow of benefits to employees.
Fitment Factor And Salary Increase
Salary increase of employees will be computed based on the fitment factor of the eighth pay commission. It is the measure on the basis of which increases in basic salary are given to the employees. The Higher the fitment factor, the higher is the increase in salary of employee. An estimated fitment factor this time may range from 2.28 to 2.8 which indicates that the basic salary of employees may go up by 40 to 50 percent.
Number Of Beneficiaries
In total, it is expected that over 48 lakh employees of the central government and over 65 lakh pensioners from the country will be enrolled among these beneficiaries under the Eighth Pay Commission. The sheer number of 48 lakh benefited people from the pay Commission shows that a very large segment of the population will be affected by this change. Overall, all these improvements are directed to the employees and the pensioners adding to their economic well-being and the economy.
Estimation Of Increment Expected In Salary
In the case of the Eighth Pay Commission, the basic salary of an employee would range between Rs.20,000 and Rs.46,000. The pay revision would depend on pay class and service length for such employees. Incremental adjustment as per fitment factor suits all employees in proportion to their salaries.
Mechanism Of The Pay Commission
The government, as such, will constitute a committee known as the Eighth Pay Commission. The committee will study all the salaries, allowances, pensions, and other benefits due to the categories of employees, and present its recommendations after consulting various organisations of employees, experts, stakeholders, and the government will finally take a decision based on the recommendations made.
