Canada OAS Boost 2025 : Canadian elders can expect to gain much financially in 2025 with the federal government set to increase Old Age Security (OAS) benefits. This could see benefits climb to a maximum OAS of $2,350 per month in 2025 for qualified recipients, an important lifeline for all during these times of rising living costs. So, if you are near retirement age or presently getting OAS, then read all you need to know about the OAS increase in 2025, the eligibility, payments, and how you can ensure that you get the maximum amount possible.
What Is The 2025 OAS Increase For?
OAS payments are adjusted on a quarterly basis according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) so that they can keep pace with inflation. The administrations introduced this extraordinary increase in 2025 in light of the exorbitant living costs that have persisted over the years needed by everyone most especially to support our dear seniors. The maximum benefit allowed could go up to $2,350 a month in the case of advanced seniors who otherwise have little or nothing to live off.
This increase includes the ordinary payments under OAS, any possibility of increase under the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), and amounts for seniors 75 and up, who would already receive slightly more OAS.
Who Is Eligible For The $2,350 Monthly Grant?
To be able to take advantage of the full $2,350 each month, you must meet a sum of criteria. Here are some of the entitlement requirements:
- Age Requirement: A person must have reached 65 years or above (some increases apply only to 75 years+)
- Residency: Must be a Canadian citizen or legal resident who has resided in Canada for at least 10 years after attaining the age of 18
- Income Level: The highest payments are accrued to the seniors falling in the low-to-moderate income rank, especially those seniors who also qualify for GIS
- Filing Income Tax: Income tax should have been filed for the previous year in order to be determined for GIS and full OAS eligibility.
Note that if you are classified as a high-income senior, a partial clawback of your OAS benefit would take effect if your annual income is above CDN $90,997 in the year 2025.
When Will Payments Begin?
The new OAS amounts would start showing up in the monthly deposits from April 2025. The payment dates for both OAS and GIS follow the same schedule and are expected to be paid on the 26th in April 2025. Seniors who are enrolled in direct deposit will automatically have the funds deposited in their bank accounts, whereas the paper cheques may take a few more days.
