Canada CPP And OAS Payment: Well, there is good news coming to Canadian seniors! Starting in April 2025, Old Age Security (OAS) and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) eligible recipients will receive a combined payment of up to $1,550. This adjustment is in accordance with the government’s continual support of older Canadians in the face of inflation.

If you are currently receiving CPP or OAS or plan to apply in the near future, here is everything you need to know about the April 2025 payment: eligibility, payment date, and the amount you may receive. 

What Is The $1,550 Payment?

In April 2025, a total of $1,550 is the average amount eligible seniors would receive from CPP and OAS combined. This is to provide a measure of compensation that may reflect the recent Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) and quarterly indexation that is based on inflation. 

  • OAS payments are on average about $713.34 for most seniors, but they can be higher depending on age (especially for those 75+) and income level. 
  • CPP payments are based on your contribution history. The average monthly CPP retirement pension is about $800 and the maximum in 2025 can go up to $1,364.60. 

Combined, many seniors could be receiving roughly between $1,400 and $1,550 a month. 

Who Is Eligible?

Eligibility for OAS and CPP does get a little different in some areas. Here is a quick rundown:

For OAS

  • Must be 65 or older
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or legal resident
  • Must have lived in Canada for 10 years or more after the age of 18  
  • Income must fall below the clawback threshold (around $90,997 yearly in 2025)

For CPP

  • You made at least one valid contribution to the CPP in your working life  
  • You can receive payments from age 60 (for a reduced amount) to age 70 (for increased benefit)  
  • Amount based on your earnings and contribution history

If you meet the individual requirements for OAS and CPP, both may be paid to you.

April 2025 Payment Dates

The CRA and Service Canada have guaranteed the following date of payment which is as follows:

  • Payment of CPP: April 26, 2025  
  • Payment of OAS: April 26, 2025  

For those who are registered for direct deposit, payments will be deposited directly into the bank account; otherwise, cheque will be mailed out which may take another few days to arrive.
