EPFO Pension Boost: Workers To Get Rs 9,000 Per Month, Key Update Revealed

EPFO Pension Scheme 2025 : The private workers falling under the Employees Provident Fund Organization have intensified their demand for an increase in the monthly minimum pension under the Employees Pension Scheme. 

EPFO Pension: The activities concerning the beneficiaries and account holders of the Employees Provident Fund Organization seem more active now. While the talks on the Unified Pension Scheme and EPFO 3.0 Scheme were on, demands for increasing the minimum pension for retired employees were getting more intensified. Private employees under EPFO have also demanded raising the monthly minimum pension under the Employees Pension Scheme (EPS) from Rs 1,000 to Rs 9,000, said the Pensioners Association. 

Demand Of The Employees Union For A Long Time

  • Nashik pensioners recently marched in front of the EPFO office, demanding an increase in the minimum pension. Labor organizations across the country have also called for May 20 all-India strike demanding the abolition of labors codes, stopping privatization, and other issues.
  • It is said that the EPS-95 National Struggle Committee fought for their demands in the Ministry of Finance with Nirmala Sitharaman months before the budget, and it was expected that it would be announced in Budget 2025-26; however, nothing happened. The Madras Labor Union and the B & C Mills Staff Union have also demanded increase pension payment of INR 9,000 per month to the Union Labor Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya.

The Central Government Had Announced Pension In 2014

  • Employees in the private sector make contributions into their EPFO and earn a minimum pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme of 1995. The central government announced in September 2014 that the pension being paid to the EPS, 1995 pensioners will now be increased to Rs 1,000 per month as the pensioners had been demanding for a long time.
  • During that year, in 2023, the Labor Ministry submitted a proposal to increase the quantum of minimum pension under EPS, 1995 to the Finance Ministry, which reportedly turned down the proposal. Presently around 186 establishments come within EPF-95. In this category, there are approximately 80 lakh pensioners, of whom 18 lakh are from the state of Maharashtra.
