Holders of the SASSA Black Card can now exchange their SASSA Gold Cards for new Postbank Black Cards. The process, being more secure and convenient from a grant disbursement point of view, favors the beneficiaries. The extension has been up till 31 May 2025.

Where To Go For The Replacement Of Your SASSA Gold Card?

Cardholders may replace SASSA Gold Cards at selected retail outlets across the country: 

  • Shoprite
  • Checkers
  • Usave
  • Pick n Pay
  • Boxer
  • Spar 

To find out where to replace their card, beneficiaries can use the USSD code 1202183#, following the prompts down to select their province and location.

Required Proof Of Identity For Replacement Of SASSA Gold Card

Beneficiaries must produce the following proof of identity for the card replacement:

  • Original South African ID or legitimate temporary ID. 

Other documents are not needed, while card replacement is free of charge. Beneficiaries are entitled to one free replacement of their cards in a year.

How To Replace Your SASSA Gold Card: Steps

  1. Location for Replacement: Look for your nearest retail location with the USSD code 1202183#. 
  2. Proceed to the Retailer: Carry your valid ID or temp ID document to the retailer of your choice. 
  3. ID Verification: The verification of your ID’s validity will be conducted. 
  4. Collect Your New Card: After successful verification, the Postbank Black Card will be given to you instantly. 
  5. Activate Your New Card: Set or reset the PIN as the case may be. For banking confirmation, conduct a low-value transaction or check your balance.

Important Notices

  • Do Not Leave It to the Last Day:Beneficiaries have been advised to replace the card as soon as possible, notwithstanding the extended date of May 31, 2025, so that they do not find themselves rushing at the last hour and will not be denied access to their benefits.
  • Don’t Be Scammed: Keep your PIN secret and do not disclose it to anyone or provide personal details to strangers. 
  • Contact Center: Postbank customers may contact 0800 53 54 55; SASSA may be reached by dialling 0800 60 10 11.
