As per its grant bulletin for beneficiaries, SASSA has announced an important increase in grant amounts with a consequent change in the dates of payment from April 2025 onward. These changes are seen as a facilitation to pay processes to better the financial assistance of the beneficiaries.
Increase In Grant Amounts

- Old Age Grant: an increment of R130, with the amount then paid to beneficiaries being R2,315.
- Disability Grant: an increment also of R130 to R2,315.
- Child Support Grant: Increase of 30 rand in monthly disbursement to a total of R560.

Application Process For New Beneficiaries
Those people not currently receiving grants but who believe they qualify are encouraged to apply without delay. Applications for the SRD grant for April 2025 are open. To qualify, applicants have to satisfy the following conditions:
- Must be South African citizens, legal permanent residents, or holders of special permits.
- Must not be receiving any other government assistance, e.g., UIF benefits or NSFAS bursaries.
- Must have a monthly income below R624 and not maintain an average bank account balance that exceeds R624.
These measures are verified monthly through additional verification mechanisms to track compliance on the part of SASSA with respect to all applicants.
Deadline For Card Replacement
Beneficiaries using the old SASSA gold cards are reminded that the deadline for the replacement of such cards with the new Postbank black cards has been extended to the end of April 2025. This extension provides the beneficiaries with more time to complete this transition without disrupting their grant payments.
Conclusion
The sweeping upcoming increases on the SASSA grants and the change in dates reflect the agency’s fondness for the various vulnerable populations in South Africa. Beneficiaries are then urged to note the newly proposed payment dates so that they adequately update their data, apply in time for grants, and remain informed through the official SASSA communication channels in order that they may fully access these essential resources.
