SASSA Care Dependency Grant April 2025: R2,310 Payment Now Active, Check Eligibility

Here’s a complete and comprehensive grant, which is probably the most favored SASSA payment to all caregivers around the country, particularly with the onset of April 2025, where the activation of Care Dependency Grant of R2,310 has come into effect. This is aimed directly at assisting their biological parents, foster parents, or other prescribed primary caregivers in taking care of children with serious disabilities at home under the need of full-time care.

What Is The Care Dependency Grant?

Care Dependency Grant is the allowance under SASSA where in this case, a grant is paid to caregivers of children who are less than 18 years old, permanently disabled, and depend on others for their daily care. From the 1st of April, 2025, this amount has increased to R2,310 per child; this is under the bi-yearly adjustment for social grants.

Who Qualifies?

These are the conditions to be met in order to qualify for the Care Dependency Grant:

  • The child must be under 18 years-old.
  • The child is confirmed medically to have a permanent severe disability from a state hospital.
  • The caregiver is a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee and lives in South Africa.
  • The applicant will pass a means test along with his or her spouse if married; this means a measure of income levels and assets before qualifying.
  • The child must not be placed in state institution such as a hospital or children’s home.
